SIX weeks of traffic disruption lie in store during the New Year when a crossing is installed on A96 at the western entrance to Elgin.

Work is scheduled to take place between Monday, January 6 and Sunday, February 16, at the Dr Gray's roundabout.

BEAR Scotland will be building a 'toucan crossing' that can be used by both pedestrians and cyclists.

During the six-week period, parking will be banned on both sides of Pluscarden Road where it runs behind Dr Gray's Hospital and comes out at Wittet Drive.

Parking will also be banned on the right hand side of Wittet Drive as it runs uphill from the Pluscarden road roundabout towards the A96.

A spokesperson for BEAR Scotland said: "Designs have been finalised for a new toucan crossing to be installed across the A96 in Elgin with construction expected to begin in the New Year.

The project will involve installing a new, signalised crossing facility close to Oldmills Road, helping to improve road safety for pedestrians, cyclists and other non-motorised road users.

"The work is expected to take up to six weeks to complete, with various temporary traffic restrictions in place for safety throughout the project.

"Teams will look to carry out the project as quickly and safely as possible, and we thank all road users for their patience in advance of the installation next year."
