New exhibition for internationally renowned Huntly artist at Gordon Castle

Internationally renowned Huntly artist Donna Louise Irvine is set to open her latest art exhibition - The Language of Flowers.

It will be displayed at The Gordon Castle Walled Garden Café in Fochabers.

This new solo exhibition is the first after a very successful exhibition held at her family’s holiday home, The Clearing, last September as part of the North East Open Studios (NEOS).

Donna Louise Irvine will open her latest art exhibition The Language of Flowers this week.

Donna said: “My aim with this new series of paintings was to explore the idea and title of the exhibition, The Language of Flowers.

“Each painting takes a flower and it’s symbolism as its inspiration along with a piece of prose or a poem which is displayed as part of the artwork.

“I worked with mixed media using inks and acrylic paints to produce bold colourful natural forms which I believe capture the emotional energy and story behind each artwork.”

She added: “This exhibition is very different from my past paintings which were landscapes and seascapes.

“I really enjoyed how this more intimate floral and garden subject matter has allowed me to use colour and shape with a greater emphasis on imagination and the painting’s potential to tell a story.

“The Gordon Castle Walled Garden was such an inspiration to me when I visited and really brought these ideas into focus which resulted in this new series of bold, bright and expressive paintings.

“I am delighted and very grateful to Gordon Castle owners, Angus and Zara Gordon Lennox, who have allowed me to hold this exhibition in the café, which is part of the historical Walled Garden, one of the oldest and largest working kitchen gardens in Britain.

“I will be sketching in the Walled Garden on Thursday, June 27 and on Saturday, August 3 and welcome the opportunity to chat with visitors about my paintings.”

The Language of Flowers exhibition runs for six weeks from Wednesday, June 26 until Saturday, August 3.

The café opening times are Wednesday to Sunday 10am – 4pm. Visit www.gordoncastle.co.uk for more information.
