The Banffshire Business Forum aims to provide a support network for information and advice for businesses of all sizes.

With a variety of funding sources and opportunities being created as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, a number of local business people were inspired to come together to create a formal group to collaboratively support the business network and enhance the appeal of the local area.

Michelle Walker, vice-chairwoman of the forum said: “It has been apparent for some time that a new local business group would be beneficial for Banff, Macduff and the surrounding area.

“We want to provide local businesses with a support network, create opportunities for advancing business in the town, and be a common voice for the local business community.

“As a result of Covid-19, there has been a great deal of focus on shopping local, with multiple funding sources and regional and national initiatives created to promote this on a longer term basis.

“We felt it was an ideal time to launch a proactive group to maximise these opportunities and to showcase the diverse range of businesses and tourism offerings we have locally.”

The committee is currently made up of 10 volunteers and meets fortnightly.

It has started looking at plans for a programme of virtual events, networking and information sharing opportunities. Newly created social media platforms are being utilised to share the information available to businesses to support them during the pandemic, from financial support to training and business information webinars.

Additional partnership working between the forum, Banff Rotary Club and the local community council, has enabled funding to be secured from Aberdeenshire Council’s Phoenix Fund.
