Moray Education – Lossiemouth’s new headteacher praises dedication of pupils

In her first annual achievement ceremony since taking over in January as headteacher, Caroline Boyd acknowledged the hard work and perseverance of Lossiemouth High’s pupils.

She delivered heartfelt congratulations to all the award winners, stating: "You should be extremely proud of your achievements. You've worked incredibly hard, pushed your boundaries, and shown the kind of dedication that sets you apart."

Ms Boyd emphasized that, as well as academic excellence, the evening was about recognising "the determination, commitment, and spirit that our pupils have demonstrated”. She highlighted how students embody the school's core values of Respect, Resilience, Responsibility and Effort.

At the heart of Lossiemouth High's mission, Ms Boyd said, was the aim of fostering an environment, "where every young person is supported, encouraged, and empowered to be the best they can be".

She added: "Education is not just about exams and qualifications. It’s also about the life skills you acquire along the way – resilience, teamwork, creativity, and the ability to think critically and independently."

Ms Boyd specifically thanked Janice Simpson for her leadership during the first half of the school year, noting that her support had made the transition much easier, and also acknowledged the invaluable help of deputes Lisa Bayliss, Louise Petrie and Lynne Weir.

She extended profound gratitude to the teaching and support staff, acknowledging: "You are the ones who nurture talent, inspire confidence, and guide our young people."

She also thanked parents and guardians for their vital partnership, which she described as "critical to the success of our young people".

In conclusion, Ms Boyd shared a vision for the future, stating that "by creating a culture where high expectations exist alongside respect, support and warmth... we can meet the needs and aspirations of all our young people – ensuring that nobody is left behind."

She urged everyone to "continue to support one another, celebrate one another’s successes, and be kind to one another”, reminding them that "the true measure of success is not just what you achieve, but how you help others along the way."
