Remembrance timings have been changed by Royal British Legion (Scotland) Forres
THE ORGANISERS of the town’s Remembrance service are highlighting new timings to coincide with the national event.
Royal British Legion Scotland (RBLS) Forres secretary, Jodie Burnside, confirmed a service will be held at St Leonard’s Church from the earlier time of 9.20am, ahead of the parade through the town centre and wreath laying at Forres War Memorial.
She explained: “These new timings allow us to hold the two minute silence with the nation at the memorial.
“Everyone should fall in behind the parade afterwards and walk down to the memorial.
“Everyone is then welcome back to the Legion afterwards to continue remembering and reflecting.”
The RBLS Service of Remembrance and parade will be held on Sunday, November 10.
Parade participants will gather at the car park opposite the church at 9.15am, before entering the church for a service arranged by the sessions clerk. The service will end at around 10.20am.
Grampian Police will close High Street to traffic during the parade and control traffic at St Catherine’s Road.
At 10.25, the contingents will form up next to the Co-op for the parade to the War Memorial.
This will be led by Royal Engineers and pipe band, followed by representatives of Forres Royal British Legion (Scotland), 1st Battalion The Highlanders Army Cadet Force, 446 (Forres) Squadron Air Training Corps, Forres and District Pipe Band juniors, 2nd Forres Boys Brigade, 1st Forres Scout Group, Girlguiding Moray and others.
When the procession arrives at the War Memorial, the parade commander will bring it to attention, ensuring everyone is in position for the War Memorial service by 10.50am.
39 Engineer Regiment will provide the public address system.
As a piper plays lament ‘Flowers of the Forest’, wreaths will be laid by the Lord Lieutenant of Moray and representatives of RBLS, Moray Council, Royal Engineer Regiment, Grampian Police, Forres Community Council, cadets, scouts, guides, pipe bands, amongst others.
Following the memorial event, the contingent will march again through High Street and Tolbooth Street to RBLS Forres club rooms.
