ALDI has given its employees a New Year pay rise in recognition of their contribution through the pandemic.

All of Aldi’s 1500 Scottish store assistant colleagues, including Elgin, will benefit from the pay rise, with Aldi paying a minimum hourly rate of £9.55, up from £9.40.

Aldi said that when paid breaks are included, the minimum hourly pay rate for store colleagues will be £10.11.

The pay rise follows bonuses that were awarded to store colleagues in April and December 2020, as thanks for their extra efforts over lockdown last year.

Giles Hurley, Aldi chief executive officer, said: "It has never been more important to ensure that our colleagues are rewarded fully for their immense contribution during a challenging period for everyone."
