EVERY dog has his day – and The Northern Scot's very own newshound, Scotty, will have his at an extra-special Christmas lights switch-on this year.

Scotty the Newshound has sniffed out that Lossiemouth is the place to be to get into the Christmas spirit when the switch is flicked for the 20th anniversary of the town celebrations this month.

He will be joined for the big switch-on by two local schoolchildren from Hythehill and St Gerardine primaries whose names were picked out in a draw.

The big switch-on will be the highlight of a Christmas cracker of an afternoon lined up for Saturday, November 30, between noon to 6pm.

A colourful carnival has been organised by the original 2000 committee members who have reformed after an eight-year retirement to mark the anniversary.

The committee elves will also be creating a magical Christmas display in the windows of the Forty Four gym.

Children from Hythehill, Torridon Pre-School Nursery, East Beach Nursery and the RAF Day Care Centre have been busy making lanterns ahead of the carnival parade. They will be joined in the torch-lit parade by characters from TV's Paw Patrol, pantomime favourites including the Ugly Sisters, the RAF pipe band, floats made by local businesses and groups, and street entertainers.

The carnival parade will leave Lossiemouth High School at around 4.30pm, with the route taking in Coulardbank Road, Elgin Road, Clifton Road and along the promenade before ending at the marina.

The children of Hythehill have been tuning up to sing on the day – with both a choir and a signing choir taking part. Together In Sign British Sign Language Choir will be performing along with members of the Hythehill Primary School Signing Choir.

A feast of entertainment is lined up, including a funfair, local bands, Military Wives Choir, a brass band and displays of dancing, martial arts, aerial gymnastics, and a singalong to name but a few.

Children can meet the Paw Patrol characters, have their hair braided, faces painted or get glitter tattoos among many other activities at a children's marquee. Handmade goods will be available to buy at a craft marquee.

Families who have pre-booked slots will be able to visit Santa and his helpers in the Grotto, which will be located in the Osprey Housing building next to Lloyds Pharmacy.

Craft and charity stalls will be selling Christmas gifts, people can try for some extra Christmas cash by visiting a mobile phone number game stall, and a selection of food stalls will be on hand.

Parade-goers can buy glow toys, glow sticks and living-flame torches for the parade at a Lossiemouth High School car park stall from 3pm.

The Lossiemouth community has rallied behind the Christmas efforts in a big way, with many signed up as volunteers to ensure everyone has a most wonderful time.
