This is due to repair work that is being carried out on the hospital’s two boilers, which will require both to be switched off.

A waterless bathing system will be in place on wards and mobile sinks will be used by staff who are preparing food. Surgeries are not expected to be affected.

Alasdair Pattinson, General Manager for Dr Gray's Hospital, said that the disruption caused will be “minimal”.

"Essential maintenance work required to replace several valves in the hospital's boiler system will begin on Sunday for up to five days,” he said.

“We are well-prepared and any disruption is expected to be minimal.

“Hot cloth systems will be in place for bathing, and mobile handwashing sinks and hot water urns will also be available alongside other contingencies.

“Steps have been taken to ensure we are operating with essential infection prevention and control measures in place as well as compliance with Food Standards Agency guidelines."

Works will begin on Sunday afternoon.
