Olympic fever grabs Moray
SCHOOL children were gripped by olympic fever today as the Moray Flame Trail was sparked.
Pupils from Bishopmill, Seafield, East End, Greenwards, St Sylvesters and New Elgin primaries were the first to pass on the (unofficial) torch.
East End Primary playground buzzed with excitement as a few warm-up laps were completed by mini-olympians proudly bearing class-made torches.
Acting Head, Angela Phillips, said: "That was fantastic. I never thought at my age I would be running around with the torch. I am very pleased that our school was chosen to start things off."
Cooper Park resembled the olympic opening ceremony as representatives from each primary gathered in their school colours waving international flags and banners before completing laps around the field.
The event, organised by the Walk, Jog, Run Moray group, will cover 150km around the district, arriving back in Elgin next Wednesday.
Chairman of the group, Dr Nick Brown,who co-organised the event with Moray sports development officer Kim Paterson, said: "We are excited that it is here after months of preparation."
He added: "We have achieved our goal of connecting the whole of Moray in a once-in-a-lifetime event."
