INDEPENDENCE supporters have erected an anti-Brexit billboard on the main A96 road into Elgin.

Suzanne Wright, the Convenor of Yes Elgin, states that the poster warns of the perils for Scotland of leaving Europe.

She said: "At this very critical time for Scotland and the UK as a whole, with the chaos of Westminster being demonstrated on a daily basis, it is important to make clear that Scotland has options – our nation can choose a different path, a path of its own choosing, not one imposed on it by a neighbour.

"Our billboard is a reminder that on Brexit, the Scottish people overwhelmingly voted to remain part of the EU and that a decision to take Scotland out of Europe will make all of our citizens poorer.

"It’s also a reminder of the very vocal campaign of the Better Together campaign in 2014 which was very keen to convince Scots that it was only by being part of the UK that Scottish citizens could guarantee their status as EU citizens.

"It is now clear to everyone that this was a deliberate attempt to deceive. Scotland will not be fooled again.

"The group are very confident that this billboard will be received as enthusiastically as our shop front boards on Elgin High Street and will prove to be a talking point that will launch many a conversation on Scotland’s future."
