One coronavirus-related death in Moray as further 1328 cases are confirmed

ONE person has died due to coronavirus in Moray, with a further 1328 cases confirmed in the last week.

The person, who had Covid-19 mentioned on their death certificate, is reported to have passed away towards the end of 2021.

Across 2021, 39 people in Moray died coronavirus-related deaths – with the area's death toll since the outbreak began now 61.

Of those 61, 47 tested positive for virus and passed away within 28 days, while 14 had the virus mentioned on their death certificate.

The tally of 1328 confirmed cases in Moray is down by more than 1000 on last week's total of 2349.

The number of positive tests in the area since the outbreak started in March 2020 is now 13,040.

Meanwhile, a total of 713 negative tests have been confirmed in the last week.

Moray neighbourhood update

All of Moray's 24 'neighbourhood areas' confirmed cases of coronavirus between January 3 and January 9.

Elgin was again the worst-hit town in Moray with a total of 363 cases – but that total is down on the 578 recorded previously.

Meanwhile, there were 165 cases in Buckie, 128 in Lossiemouth, 96 in Forres and 71 in Keith and Fife Keith.

The other cases are as follows:

  • Heldon West, Fogwatt to Inchberry: 92
  • Burghead, Roseisle and Laich: 84
  • Cullen, Portknockie, Findochty, Drybridge and Berryhillock: 68
  • Findhorn, Kinloss and Pluscarden Valley: 64
  • Rural Keith and Strathisla: 50
  • Rafford, Dallas, Dyke to Dava: 47
  • South Speyside and the Cabrach: 41
  • Lhanbryde, Urquhart, Pitgavney and seaward: 41
  • North Speyside: 34
  • Mosstodloch, Portgordon and seaward: 33
  • Fochabers, Aultmore, Clochan and Ordiquish:24

The number of people aged 12 plus in Moray to have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine is 71,997. This accounts for 85.6 per cent of the eligible population.

The number to have received one dose is 77,594 – or 92.2 per cent of those eligible.

In total, 57,382 people aged 12 plus have received a booster/third jab, accounting for 68.2 per cent of the population.
