AN OUTDOOR learning and adventure youth charity are asking people to take on a virtual challenge to raise vital funds for their work with young people in Moray.

Lossiemouth-based Outfit Moray is challenging individuals and teams to cover the distance of a Scottish tourist trail – either the North Coast 500, North East 250 or the Moray Way – by bike, canoe or kayak, or on foot throughout July.

Outfit Moray's community and corporate fundraiser, Karen Cox, said: "Like many small charities, the coronavirus lockdown has had a huge impact on our fundraising ability.

"We want to ensure we are able to weather this very difficult storm, so this July we are asking people to cycle, run, walk or paddle the distance of either the NC500, NE250 or Moray Way to raise vital funds for us.

"People can take part on their own or they can combine their miles as part of a virtual team or household. We hope lots of families will enjoy it as part of their daily exercise. Perhaps they could even use it for their home-schooling and include some geography or maths lessons?"

.

Chief executive Tony Brown said: "Whilst our usual programme of outdoor activities is currently suspended, we have been delivering cycling sessions to the children of key workers in the local school hubs and Bike Revolution were able to service and repair over 40 key workers’ bikes thanks to funding from Cycling UK.

"Our comprehensive programme of life-changing outdoor learning activities is unique to Moray and we are heavily relied upon by local schools and youth groups, as well as families, and with fundraising severely limited during these difficult times we are hoping our Summer Challenge inspires people to support us."

The charity has been delivering cycling sessions at childcare hubs in Aberlour, Lossiemouth, Elgin, Kinloss, Keith, Buckie, Lhanbryde and Duffus.

The NC500 route is just over 500 miles at 516 miles long, the NE250 250 miles and the Moray Way, incorporating the Dava Way, the Moray Coast Trail and the Speyside Way, totals 96 miles.

Participants can download and print off a calendar to keep track of their distances. Outfit Moray has set up a Virgin Money Giving page to link any fundraising.
