VANDALS have forced the closure of a well-used public toilet following an attack described by community leaders as sickening.

Pipes were ripped from the wall, basins were smashed, and doors were damaged during what’s thought to have been a series of incidents at Lossiemouth’s Station Park.

Council bosses closed the gents at the weekend after the damage got so bad it led to flooding, with a sign put in place directing people to the nearest alternative on The Esplanade.

However, the vandals next diverted their attention to the ladies, which may also now have to be closed.

An estimate of damage caused is thought to be about £3,000.

Local councillor Dave Stewart said he was disgusted by the loss of the vital public amenity – one which locals fought hard to retain.
