Parking will be prohibited on the east end of Elgin High Street and outside the co-op stores on the high streets in Forres and Fochabers. Restrictions will also be imposed on Clifton Road and Queen Street in Lossiemouth.

The council explained that these restrictions will not include road closures. The idea is to ensure pedestrians can walk around queues of people waiting to get into shops.

Local business have been asked what their plans and requirements are as more open to the public.

Further restrictions may result from this consultation, with the situation under constant review.

Meanwhile, traffic travelling over the New Elgin Road railway bridge will be managed. Pedestrian barriers are set to be erected in the northbound traffic lane to allow pedestrians and cyclists to use it safely.
