Moravian Motors and Regency Car Sales, owned by local businessman Charles Milne, have made more than 50 vehicles with volunteer drivers available to assist people from the Cullen to Fochabers area get to vaccination appointments at the Fiona Elcock Vaccination Centre in Elgin and Macduff Sports Centre.

Local vaccination centres have been temporarily closed due to supply issues with the vaccine and efforts have been concentrated on centralised hubs.

Mr Milne's generous move has meant many people eligible for their vaccine have been able to get to their appointments, reducing the stress of those who are required to travel farther distances.

Banffshire and Buchan Coast MSP Stewart Stevenson has commended the support in a motion to the Scottish Parliament.

He said: “Regency Car Sales has shown the kind of incredible community spirit and generosity which is exemplary of care which has been shown across the north-east during the coronavirus pandemic.

“Many people eligible for the vaccine could have trouble travelling to their nearest vaccination centre without access to transport which can be particularly difficult for those living in rural areas.

“This has allowed many people to not have the additional stress or worry about getting to their appointment.

“I would like to say a very big thank you to Regency Car Sales for hard work.”

Anyone requiring a lift to a vaccination appointment in Elgin or Macduff should call Regency on (01542) 833050 and ask for vaccinations transfers. The desk will be open Monday to Friday 10am-1pm and 1.30pm until 4pm during March.

The text of Mr Stevenson's motion reads: "That the Parliament recognises the efforts of the Buckie business, Regency Car Sales, to assist its community during the Covid-19 pandemic; understands that the company has made 52 vehicles and drivers available to assist with getting people from the Buckie area to the Fiona Elcock Vaccination Centre in Elgin to be vaccinated; notes that this action was taken in order to help reduce the stress on those who are required to travel farther distances for their Covid-19 vaccine in Buckie and surrounding area; considers that this is an important demonstration of community spirit, kindness and people’s willingness to help one another, and commends Regency Car Sales in Buckie and all the volunteers involved with this community action."
