It was a close race between the Conservative candidate Kathleen Robertson and the SNP representative Graham Leadbitter, with the latter winning by just over 1000 votes.
Labour’s candidate James Hynam came third with 8259 votes, followed by the Lib Dems’ Neil Alexander (3785), Steve Skerret from Reform UK (3490), Draeyk Van Der Horn for the Greens (1676) and Euan Morrice from Scottish Family (423).
The results were revealed just after 5am in what was an emotional night.
Mr Leadbitter said he was delighted with the result and that it was a pleasure for him to represent the new constituency in Westminster.
