A theatre experience highlighting the distillery's rich history has returned to The Macallan.

The Pioneers Experience has been written by actress Debra Weston, whose film credits include Patriot Games, Thunderbirds, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Performed on the banks of the River Spey, it follows the story of Janet Harbinson.

Known as Nettie, she took over as the distillery's managing director in 1918 after her husband Alexander died.

Her passion and dedication kept the business running and laid the platform for its rise to become one of the world's most famous whisky makers.

Nettie was also responsible for crafting one of the most valuable bottles ever sold at auction – The Macallan Fine & Rare 1926 which fetched a price of £1.5million four years ago.

Stuart Cassells, The Macallan estate's general manager: "We’re proud to be the first single malt Scotch whisky distillery to tell the story of our rich heritage through live performance.

"Nettie’s story is one of quiet heroism and a profound legacy.

"The Pioneers Experience is one of the most significant events in our calendar. It returns for 2023 with an exciting twist, with the help of Debora Weston and a team of extraordinary actors from across Scotland."
