Pizza Hut plans for Elgin High Street withdrawn
Plans to bring Pizza Hut to Moray have been withdrawn.
The Glenshire Group, a family-owned business based in Fife, were hoping to bring the chain to Elgin by transforming a building located at 228 High Street into a takeaway.
A planning application was submitted in November last year. It detailed how the business wanted to operate between the hours of 11am and 11pm and would run primarily as a delivery service.
It stated that there would be five staff on site at any one time which would also include drivers.
The planning application also estimated that the number of customers visiting the premises would only amount to around 25 per day.
David Arrandale, property director for the Glenshire Group, said the business was hopeful of opening the location in the “early part of 2025”.
However, Moray Council’s transport department raised concerns regarding the proposals and objected to the plans.
The department said that the location would be unsuitable for deliveries which would lead to unsafe parking and traffic issues.
It highlighted how delivery vehicles may stop on the footway or on the road outside the building while waiting to pick up orders which could block the High Street.
The plans were withdrawn last week but could be resubmitted with tweaks in an effort to ease the concerns of objectors.
It is not known if the Glenshire Group remains committed to bringing Pizza Hut to Elgin.
The firm has been contacted for comment.
