Elgin hotel the Eight Acres set for quarter-million-pound renovation

A former asylum hotel has applied for permission to undertake a £250,000 package of works.

The Eight Acres Hotel in Elgin, which was used to house asylum seekers from April 2023 to April 2024, could be set for an internal overhaul under the plans.

Owned by company LM Elgin 1, part of the Thailand-based Lake Merritt Group, the hotel was the subject of a building warrant application to Moray Council sent last Monday.

According to the council website, the plans would involve “internal alterations” being carried out at the landmark hotel.

The refurbishment works would also “form bedrooms” and involve changes to layouts and fittings, according to the application.

Submitted by agents Wittets Architects, based in Elgin, the applicant is listed as Perth-based company 7Hospitality Management.

Application details confirm that the value of work to be carried out is £250,000.

Moray Council’s target date for responding to the application is July 9.
