Simpsons Malt has submitted the planning application for its proposed state-of-the-art maltings near Rothes.

The planning application, which also includes storage facilities, will shortly be live on the Moray Council website storage facilities

The public will then open to allow the public the opportunity to express their views on the proposed development.

Simspons, a fifth-generation family business, announced in September last year that, subject to planning permission being granted, it had entered into an agreement to buy 40 acres of farmland at Greens of Rothes.

A public consultation event took place virtually on Zoom in July.

This was followed two months later by a face-to-face event at the Grant Hall which was well attended.

Steven Rowley, Simpsons Malt Operations Director, said: "At the in-person we said we intended on having the planning application submitted to Moray Council before the end of October.

"However, after considering comments received at the event, we have spent additional time making some alterations to the plans, while also having further ecological assessments conducted at the site."

Following the public consultation the application will be considered and decided by Moray Council’s Planning Committee at some point in the New Year.

Simpsons Malt was founded in 1862 and already supplies a number of distilleries across Moray.

The proposed development would be the company’s third plant, adding to other sites it already runs in Berwick and Norwich.

It states that as many as 40 jobs could eventually be created by the project.
