Moray Council plans to turn Cooper Park toilet block into café are given approval

Plans to transform an out-of-use toilet block in the area’s biggest park into a café have been given the go-ahead.

Moray Council is set to turn the toilet block beside the bowling green in Cooper Park into a café in a bid to “enhance the area”.

Works will involve redesigning the building so it includes male, female and disabled toilets.

There are plans for outdoor seating, an accessible ramp for the toilet block and a storage area for events.

The building’s proposed opening times are 9am until 5pm in summer (between May and September) and 9am until 4pm in winter (between October and April).

However, opening hours may be extended when annual events are being held in the park.

The application is part of the wider regeneration project funded by £18.3m from the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund.

Speaking about the plans previously, Councillor Marc Macrae (Fochabers Lhanbryde, Conservative) said they would ensure Cooper Park remains a “key attraction”.

“These improvements will create better facilities and outdoor spaces, ensuring the park remains a key attraction for both residents and visitors,” he said.

The council also has approval for a ticket office, which relates to plans to build an amphitheatre, which have now been ditched due to lack of funding.
