Lossiemouth quarry fire being treated as wilful by Police Scotland
A large quarry fire in Lossiemouth on Friday night is being treated as “wilful” by police.
Six fire appliances and specialist units, along with police, were sent to the quarry after 8pm after reports of a blaze.
A section of Boyd Anderson Drive was cordoned off and a number of homes were evacuated.
The fire was brought under control last night by crews, who returned this morning to “check everything was safe and under control”, a spokesperson said.
Police have now confirmed that they believe the fire was started deliberately.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "At around 8.25pm we received a report of a fire at a quarry in Lossiemouth.
"Officers attended and the fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
"There were no reported injuries.
"The fire is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing."
