The generosity of local folk led to another superb collection during last month's Poppy Scotland appeal.

With two tins still to come in, the cash already totals £22,200

Lt Colonel David Broadfoot, chairman of the local Poppy Scotland committee, expressed his surprise and delight that this year's total was virtually the highest ever.

He said: "With austerity and the confusion over Brexit it was felt that this year would be pushed to match the record breaking 2018 figure of over£23,000. It's incredible that people have been so generous again.

"Among this year’s collection stories is that of Beaver Travel where chef Michelle, off her own back, started to produce poppy cakes.

"The poppies on the top were made of thinly sliced pineapple died red. The cakes raised a wonderful £155."

Col Broadfoot says he would like to thank all the local businesses and people who participated.

Thanks are also due to RAF Lossiemouth and, in particular, the station Warrant Officer Mark Radcliffe.

The local Royal Navy and RAF cadets also worked very hard as did the committee members.
