Making their first appearance at the event will be a full TVR stand and a Ford Mustang Club stand.

One of those looking forward to the big day was classic car show chairman John Clark.

He said: “This year’s show is the biggest one yet and with entrants from all ages and folk coming from all over the UK and likes of Shetland to the Western Isles, we’re really looking forward to it.

“This year we’re celebrating 50 years of the Mk1 VW Golf which has a Scottish connection to it.

“For inspiration VW sent its interior designed to a Scotland in 1973 to speak to Sir Jackie Stewart, who was then F1 world champion and always drove with a tartan band on his crash helmet. The designer liked this so much she designed tartan seats for the golf in 1974 and tartan is still used by VW on present day on brand new Golfs.

“Specially delivered VW sausages - which are like fish and chips to us - will be served up to all VW Golf owners on the day by Mike from the Big Orange.

“I think we have around 60 VW Golfs entered in all from over the last 50 years.”

Also celebrating a special anniversary this year is the iconic Ford Mustang, with some special rosettes and trophies to mark the occasions.

Mr Clark continued: “We’re having a special theme in the show for ‘cars you don’t see any more’.

“This is for mass produced cars the used to be on every street corner and all over the roads in the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, just general small and family cars that are very rare nowadays, you just don’t see them any more.

“Over the last two years I have been restoring a very rare Audi 80 sport and if finished it will be on display on the Audi 80/90 club show stand

“And how could we forget the Ford Capri, the car you always promised yourself? It’s 50years to the Mk2 Ford Capri and the 40 year anniversary of the Ford Laser and 2.8i specials, which were very popular in the 80s, and the very last of the line Capri 280 Brooklands. These were the last capri Ford built in limited numbers

“Ford have just relaunched a new Ford Capri and opinions are divided on it but on the 25th we will be remembering the Ford Capri for the master piece it was

“One of our committee members John Thomson has been restoring his Mk3 Ford Capri and this will be on show on the 25th, completed we hope.”

Mr Clark is bringing a rare Mercedes car that he said could only be described as a “rust bucket” - it has got no floors, a seized engine and has “more holes in it than Swiss cheese”. Over the course of one year he intends to totally restore tit before unveiling it at next years show.

He said: “If anybody wants to have a bet that it won’t be fully restored then bring it on and all bets will be donated to a local charity.”

In addition to the hundreds of gleaming vehicles to admire there will also be plenty of contests and prizes during the day, including a show and shine competition and vehicle category prizes.

Also set to be joining in the fun are Regency Car Sales, Elgin Autos, Elgin Motor Museum and Addison Tyres.

For four-legged visitors there will be a fun dog show running from lunchtime, organised and sponsored by Coopers Doggie Delights.

Joining the variety of food vendors at the show will be range of craft, trade and charity stands.

“We can’t wait for August 25 to come round.”
