Elgin’s Spice Tandoori Indian restaurant is named regional winner at Asian Curry Awards





A popular restaurant and takeaway has been named as a ‘regional winner’ at a national awards ceremony.

Elgin’s Spice Tandoori was one of seven finalists at the Asian Curry Awards - dubbed the Curry Oscars - and were recognised when they were announced as regional winners.

The winners were announced at the Grosvenor House in London on Sunday, November 17, where 1200 guests gathered.

The overall winner for Scotland was Light of Bengal in Aberdeen, with Charcoals in Glasgow another receicing a regional winner award. All finalists were voted for by the public - with more than 200 eateries put forward overall.

Speaking at the awards Mr Yawar Khan, chairman of the Asian Catering Federation, said: “It is with immense pride that we present these awards each year.

“The success of every business here is down to the passion, determination and culinary talent that drives this industry forward.

“Congratulations to all winners and huge thanks to everyone who invests in our industry, which continues to contribute billions to the UK economy each year despite the challenging economic climate.”

The evening was hosted by BBC news anchor Samantha Simmonds, with honourable guest speakers including the Parliamentary Minister for Business and Trade Sarah Jones MP, and Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government Rushanara Ali MP.
