Moray power cut hit thousands of residents
Around 1200 homes in the area were affected by a power cut at the weekend.
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) have confirmed that at around 8.30pm on Saturday evening, a fault on the local underground cable network in Forres caused the power to go off.
As well as on North Road, High Street, Califer, Grantown Road, Pilmuir, Sanquhar, St Leonard’s Road, Invererne Road, Knockomie, Mannachie, Forbeshill, Hainings, Thornhill, Altyre, Tytler Street, Croft Road, Castlehill Road, Mundole, Drumduan Park and Roysvale, houses were left without power in Kinloss, Rafford, Dunphail, Dyke, Dallas and Burgie.
A SSEN spokesperson explained that an engineer based nearby was despatched to site as soon as they were alerted, and using automated technology was able to start restoring supplies.
He added: “On the rare occasion there is a fault on our network, our priority is to restore supplies as safely and as quickly as possible.
We’d like to thank those customers who were affected by Saturday night’s power cut for their patience as we worked hard to get their power back on as safely and quickly as possible.”
Affected customers reported the supply flicking on and off a few times. This also affected street and traffic lights.
SSEN stated that, by re-routing the affected supplies, they restored customers’ power in stages, with all supplies back on by 10.30pm.
