Praise for award winners at Moray schools
Pupils at Moray’s secondary schools have been told to enjoy their summer holidays and come reinvigorated for the next academic year.
Students, staff and family members came together to celebrate a year of success when Milne’s High School held their annual prize-giving at Fochabers Public Institute.
It was an evening to remember for Calum Macpherson who was presented with the Sir Ashley Mackintosh Medal as Dux of the school.
The guest speaker was high flying former student Felix Lilleyman who is now a pilot at Bristow Helicopters.
Meanwhile at Lossiemouth High’s award ceremony the school’s pipe band performed, while head Janice Simpson addressed the staff and pupils.
The guest speaker at the event was Karen Cox, who works with Outfit Moray, the Lossiemouth-based charity which aims to promote outdoor activities to young people.
Over at Elgin High, headteacher Hugh McCulloch stressed in his speech the importance school of respect and responsibility.
He said: “These values are not mere words; they are the principles that shape our interactions, decisions, and expectations within our school community.”
Mr McCulloch praised students who gained seven As at N5 – Euan MacKay, Abi Groves, Marley Wilkinson, Rachael Clark, Tomek Meszka and Damian Prusinovski – and those who gained five As at Higher Level – Alfie Harper and Jaeden More.
He also recognised the “incredible achievements” of Abi Howie, who became this paper’s ‘Secondary Pupil of the Year’.
Abi, who had to have a leg amputated after contracting a rare for of bone cancer, has been accepted to study veterinary medicine at Edinburgh University.
Forres High’s head teacher Jan Sinclair referred to how the school had overcome having to partly close for several weeks after faulty concrete was discovered in the building.
She said: “Despite the tough year we've had, our students' determination and spirit have been remarkable.
“To all the prize winners, your dedication is inspiring, and we are very proud of you. I look forward to seeing more of your great achievements in the future. I hope you all have an enjoyable and restful summer break."
Elgin Academy, Speyside High, Keith Grammar and Buckie High also had award ceremonies before breaking up for the holidays.
