LBGT+ event organisers Pride in Moray shortlisted for Proud Scotland Awards
THE group behind finally bringing pride parades to Moray – fifty years after the first one was held in the UK, have been nominated for an award for their work.
Pride in Moray have been announced as a finalist at the Proud Scotland Awards 2024. The group are up for the Charity and Community Group Initiative Award, which aims to recognise the groups and initiatives working to enact change and create support for the LGBTQI+ community.
Pride in Moray organised and ran the first ever Pride parade in Moray in 2022, then again in 2023, and just recently received Scottish Charity status in time for the 2024 event, taking place in Forres on September 7.
The group is run entirely by a small team of volunteers who are passionate about LGBT+ visibility and inclusion within Moray. The group host various fundraisers each year and work to gather donations so that the parade can be free to attend.
In a report from the Time for Inclusive Education campaign, researchers found that young LGBT+ people in Moray felt unseen and alone, Pride in Moray hope to continue to combat and make positive changes by championing inclusion and LGBT visibility in the area.
The group will find out if they are successful at the Proud Scotland Awards 2024 Ceremony in Edinburgh on Friday 31st May 2024.
