The new batch of first year students are preparing for life at Lossiemouth High School and undertook challenges at a recent taster day.

This is the fourth year that Lossie High have done "tester days", where primary school students from the local area go up to the school for a couple of days to get their feet on the ground.

This year there were several challenges, including the main afternoon event Island X.

24 groups took part in the event, with teams having 4-6 members. Each school had a winner, and there was an overall winner.

12 judges were involved with grading the event, with marks given out of 40. The contest was close with high marks all round.

St Gerardine pupils Isla Malcolm, Mhiri Ireland, Nikita Gordon and Erin Balmer were the overall champions.

Teacher Jennifer Baird said: "It was a brilliant day and all the pupils should be really proud of themselves.

"We had to change the event this year because we had done planet X for the last few years, and there was classes of P6-7s last year. But it was very successful.

"It's important the pupils get used to their surroundings before starting."

Mrs Baird thanked Balfour Beatty who helped fund the event, including getting the students to the school on busses. Without them it wouldn't have been possible, she added.
