The annual open day allows locals and visitors to learn about Moray’s stories by uncovering hidden gems.

Among the new venues taking part this year is AJ Engineering in Forres – celebrating 25 years in business the local engineering firm is offering the chance to go behind the scenes of their recent £2.5 million makeover.

Moray Waste Busters, also in Forres, are getting involved, too. Find out more about the non-profit social enterprise and reuse shop. You will still have time to explore Nelson’s Tower at the top of Cluny Hill, which is another new addition to the line up.

Adding to Forres’ new participants is Lodge St John (Op) No 37, constituted under the Grand Lodge of Scotland in 1737, it is one of two masonic lodges in Forres and of nine in Moray.

Shempston House and Rising Roots Microgreens is an active farm undergoing transformation into an events venue in Duffus. Join brothers Ron and Dan for a tour of the house, venue and farm.

St Margaret’s Church in Aberlour completes the list of newcomers to Doors Open Day in Moray. The Grade A listed building built between 1875 and 1979 stands ready to welcome visitors.

Alongside old favourites, the full programme of places taking part in Moray Doors Open Day 2024 can be found online. Some tours must be booked, check online for details.

Moray Council leader, Councillor Kathleen Robertson, hopes the opportunity is taken to enjoy Moray’s built heritage: “Doors Open Day prompts us to appreciate what we have on our doorstep.

“From those buildings you pass daily and wonder what they’re like inside to the stories of our past and heritage - there’s something for everyone in this year’s programme. I hope lots of us take the opportunity to see behind the scenes of somewhere different this year and celebrate Moray’s heritage.”
