PRIMARY one pupils and some staff members at St Gerardine Primary have been asked to remain away from the school as a P1 who tested positive for Covid-19 is retested.

The pupil at the Lossiemouth school was confirmed as having tested positive for the virus , but is now being retested to ensure the result is not a false positive.

As a result, all P1 pupils and a number of staff members are being asked to stay away from the school until another result is returned.

The school remains open for the remainder of staff and pupils, with the result of the retest expected tomorrow.

A Moray Council spokesperson said: "As a precaution, following a positive Covid-19 test linked to the school, one age group of pupils and some staff have been asked not to attend while the individual is retested, by NHS Grampian, to ensure the result was not an anomaly.

“We are working with, and taking advice from, NHS Grampian's public health team.

“The school has strict Covid-19 protection protocols in place for both staff and pupils.

“Parts of the school are undergoing an enhanced clean as a precautionary measure.”

An update on this story will follow.
