Pupils cook up meal fit for a Queen

YOUNGSTERS from Lhanbryde Primary are hoping they have cooked up a menu that is, quite literally, fit for the Queen.
P6 pupils have used produce from across Moray to create a series of tasty treats which they hope could take them all the way to the kitchens of Buckingham Palace.
Schools throughout the UK are taking part in the Cook for the Queen competition, launched by the Duchess of Cornwall as a special tribute for the Diamond Jubilee.
The top four winning schools will be invited to London in June to see their recipes brought to life and to help serve them at a reception attended by Her Majesty and the Duchess of Cornwall.
Classroom assistant Gaenor Arands said the youngsters, aged 10 and 11, had been working hard on their menu, which has been backed by a number of local food companies.
"It is the first time we have done something like this and it is nerve-wracking, but the children were pleased with the finished results," Mrs Arands said.
"The whole idea is to use local produce and to design a menu that we think the Queen might like that showcases food from the area.
"So we’ve called our menu Moray Fusion because they are using traditional Scottish food, but maybe doing it a little bit differently."
As well as getting to try some tasty treats, youngsters learned about teamwork, basic cooking skills, menu planning, and presentation along the way.
The budding chefs will find out later this month if they are among the lucky winners.
