Elgin primary school Greenwards invests in new playpark for schoolchildren
Hours of fun are set to be had by “excited” primary school pupils at a shiny new playpark.
Youngsters at Greenwards Primary in Elgin gathered to see the cutting of a ribbon on their new play area.
Despite rainy conditions for the official opening yesterday (Wednesday, September 3), pupils were enthusiastic as Aria Hunt (P1) and Natalie Birnie (P7) snipped the ribbon.
Primary 7 pupil Sean Ingram said: “I am excited because I remember it being built since day one and now it’s here.
“The playpark previously only had two or three things, and this one is the biggest school playpark that I have seen.”
Isla Kerr, who is in the same year, added: “I’m really happy to see it finished because it took a little while to build. I’m just delighted that it’s here.”
Sean added that he was most excited to have a go on the bucket swing, while Isla was most looking forward to a spin on the roundabout.
The process of building the playpark began two years ago, with Wicksteed involved in installing the equipment.
Rachel Wilson, the school’s head teacher, explained that pupils chose the playpark from a choice of three.
She added: “It’s so special because it has all come from pupil voice.
“Pupils got to view other play areas and think about things that were important to them.
“Then they were pivotal in terms of designing it and agreeing what kind of play equipment they wanted.
“The staff have been pivotal too - so just a huge thank-you to everybody who has been involved.
“The kids are really enjoying it.”
