Moray’s Auchindoun Castle receives a helicopter delivery from Historic Environment Scotland





A helicopter was called into action to deliver the materials needed to repair one of Scotland’s most remote castles.

Conversation work is taking place at Auchindoun Castle which can only be reached by foot.

The fortification was built in the 1400s and stands on a hill overlooking the road between Dufftown and Huntly.

It was damaged by the Clan Mackintosh in 1592 as an act of retaliation.

Earlier that year George Gordon, the 1st Marquis of Huntly, had killed an ally of theirs, James Stewart who wa later immortalised in song as the Bonny Earl O'Moray.
