Nearly half the board of a newly created organisation whose aim is to attract visitors to Moray have resigned.

Six of the 15 directors of Visit Moray Speyside stood down over the weekend.

The organisation – which is only Scotland's third Tourism Business Improvement District – was formed following a ballot of local tourism businesses last year.

It has been operating since April.

Amongst those to quit are Visit Moray Speyside's chairman Barry Scott who is the co-owner of the Bothy Bistro in Burghead and Oliver Lyon who runs the Speyside Gardens Caravan site in Aberlour.

The other four who have stepped down are Carlo Miele, Phil Rogers, Alastair Ross and Kerry McInnes.

Laurie Piper, the organisation's chief executive said: "It is regretful that some of the Visit Moray Speyside Directors have chosen to stand down.

"It is entirely understandable, given the unprecedented situation in which we find ourselves and the amount of time required to establish any business, let alone a regional tourism organisation, that some of the former directors felt they could no longer devote time to the organisation.

"The Tourism BID board would like to thank the former directors for their contribution over the past few months and wish them well for the future."

A previously scheduled board meeting is being held tomorrow. It will aim to announce a new board line-up at the end of the day.
