Action was taken against 20 motorists and three vehicles were seized by police during a recent operation.

Road policing officers carried the operation at the weekend which was directed towards younger drivers and anti-social drivers.

Many of the larger town in Moray were targeted, including Elgin, Aberlour, Dufftown, Keith and Buckie.

While over in Aberdeeshire the police concentrated on Fraserbugh, Peterhead, Banff, Macduff, Aboyne, Banchory, Alford, Westhill, Inverurie, Oldmeldrum, Huntly, Ellon and Turriff.

In total:

  • 87 motorists were stopped
  • 7 motorists were reported to the Procurator Fiscal for offences including drink and drug driving, possession of imitation licences or drugs, and driving unsupervised on a provisional licence.
  • 13 conditional offers were issued for offences including speeding, no MOTs, and vehicle defects
  • 3 vehicles were seized for driving licence offences.
  • A further 14 warnings were issued for offences which included vehicle defects, speeding and careless driving.

Sergeant Craig McNeill said: "We will continue to conduct targeted operations, addressing concerns and issues in our local communities.

"These are aimed at both those who cause annoyance and those who pose the greatest risk on our roads.

"I would encourage anyone with young drivers in their families to encourage them to drive safely and explain to them the potential life changing consequences of not doing so."
