Moray Council states that the route will shut to through traffic from Tuesday, July 23 until Monday, August 5 while a new gas system is installed.

The council has been forced to open up Batchen Street for the past five years to allow traffic to exit Elgin High Street.

However with the restoration work on the Poundland building due to be completed at some point this year, plans have been mooted to place retractable traffic bollards at the bottom of Batchen Street.

This would allow the road to revert back to being pedestrianised, but still provide access for specific vehicles to load and unload.
