Ross in the pink for breast cancer fundraiser

MORAY MP Douglas Ross has donned pink at Westminster in a show of support for Breast Cancer Now's upcoming fundraiser.

National Wear It Pink day will take place on Friday, October 18.

Conservative Mr Ross said: "I was more than happy to support the charity in their efforts to raise awareness and fund vital research into this disease and would urge everyone in Moray to wear a dash of pink on the day or hold their own event to boost the charity’s coffers. This will secure life-saving research and life changing support for those affected by the disease.

"It was good to have the opportunity to meet with the Breast Cancer Now supporters at Westminster recently who have been affected by breast cancer themselves and do so much to raise awareness.

"NHS Grampian has diagnosed an average of 445 women every year since 2012 with breast cancer, and it’s not just women who will receive the devastating news. I know there are people in Moray who will be fighting the disease now, and whose family and friends will be supporting them at every stage.

"In Scotland survival rates are high at more than 80% but more can be done, and what is positive about this charity is all the money raised allows Breast Cancer Now to fund vital research and offer support for those living with a diagnosis. These fundraisers are vital, and I hope that everybody will Wear It Pink this October and support this very important cause."

Baroness Delyth Morgan, chief executive at Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Now, said: "Breast cancer still affects so many of us, and our goal as a charity is that by 2050 everyone who develops breast cancer will live, and be supported to live well. The money raised from Wear It Pink is so crucial to this helping us to fund vital breast cancer research and support for those affected by the disease.

"We hope that by wearing pink and featuring locally, Douglas will encourage more people to take part on October 18 and help us to continue to fund vital breast cancer research and support."

Mr Ross added: "Anyone can take part just by wearing pink or holding a fundraiser at home or at work on the day, or organising a coffee morning or a cake sale, raffle or sponsored event."
