ROTARY Elgin this week boosted the fund towards the revamp of a Dr Gray's Hospital ward.
Rotary club president George Duthie handed over a cheque for £4000 this week to Friends of Dr Gray's Hospital chairman Tim Wakefield.
The Friends group was set up with the intention to enhance life at the hospital for patients and staff and promote community involvement.
The money is earmarked for a planned upgrade of the Ward 6 day room, which specialises in orthopaedics and is in need of renovation.
The sum was raised at the Spring Fling Ball held in March at the Mansfield Hotel in Elgin.
Mr Duthie said: "Local businesses contributed very generously to the auction, which included lots such as luxury hotel stays – and even a trip in a combine harvester."
Mr Duthie added that the ball was a fantastic night, with music from the Dunphail Dance Band.
Mr Wakefield said: "We are delighted that Rotary Elgin made the decision to donate the proceeds of their Spring Fling to our group. Working with them, we established that the donation will be put towards the refurbishment of Ward 6 day room.
"While we mark this bi-centenary year with different events and visits, it is important that we continue to do what we can to help improve the experience of everyone who uses the services in our hospital. Ward 6 day room is in need of a refresh and we are pleased to be able to help to fund the work required."
Earlier this month the Princess Royal toured Ward 6 on her visit to mark the hospital's 200 years.
A refurbishment is planned along the same lines as that completed in 2017 on the Jack Miller day room on Ward 5, a mixed surgical ward. The room was refurbished with cash donated by Bill Robertson, founder of Robertson Group, and former surgeon Jack Miller's family. Mr Miller served Moray as a surgeon for over 25 years and was a driving force in the redevelopment of the hospital in the 1990s.
