ROTHES Horticultural and Industrial Society has cancelled their annual flower show.

The event, due to take place on September 5, has become an annual fixture within the Speyside community and the decision to cancel was delayed until the last possible moment.

But it has been decided that, with social-distancing measures still in place, the show cannot go ahead.

The good news is that the Best Kept Garden competition will go ahead, with just a small change to the judging.

President Dena Cruickshank said: "We must ensure at all times that the health and safety of everyone visiting our events is protected.

"By cancelling our flower show we are playing our small part in combating the covid-19 virus.

“It’s so disappointing because many people have been spending more time in their gardens this year and it would have been great to see the fruits of their labour as flower show entries. Sadly, it wasn’t to be.

“But all is not lost! We are still going ahead with the Rothes Best Kept Garden competition. Judging will take place during the last week of July."

Society member Ronnie Shepherd will accompany judge Davie Stewart. But in a change to the usual format, judging this year will be done purely from the pavement to ensure social distancing.

Secretary Sheila MacDonald has asked for all show trophies to be returned to her now for engraving. Please deliver to 67 Land Street, Rothes, as soon as possible.

Anyone who picked up a show schedule should keep it for next year. The 2021 event will be on Saturday, September 4, in the Grant Hall.
