ELGIN'S Cooper Park was whirring with cyclists last week as a local school marked National Bike Week.

Pupils at Elgin's Seafield Primary School, on Deanshaugh Terrace, took part in a mass cycle for a half-hour around the park before enjoying a picnic and heading back to classes.

Bike Week, held this year between 8-16 June, is a national celebration designed to inspire people to give cycling a whirl by promoting its social, health and environmental benefits.

The organiser of the school ride-out, deputy head teacher Martin Collins, got on his bike to join the P2 to P7 children.

Many of the school's teachers donned their helmets too to enjoy some fresh air before classes resumed. And a good number of parents went along for the ride or accompanied the riders on foot.

The focus was on promoting methods of sustainable transport by encouraging bike use when possible for work and leisure.
