Scotrail's stations to fall silent for Armistice Day

Scotrail's stations will fall silent as memorial services take place around the country at 11am today.

It marks the day World War One ended at 11 am, on the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918.

An announcement will be made at stations just before 11am and ScotRail and Network Rail will invite customers to observe a two-minute silence.

Then on Remembrance Sunday, 14 November, following station announcements, customers will again be invited to observe a two-minute silence at 11am.

This is to commemorate military and civilian servicemen and women from Britain and the Commonwealth in the two World Wars and later conflicts.

James Ledgerwood, ScotRail Head of Economic Development and Communities, said: "I am proud that Scotland’s Railway is once again remembering the sacrifice of those who fell in two World Wars and conflicts since then.

"It's a time for people to come together and unite in their appreciation of those who gave, and continue to give, their service to this country.

"It will be especially poignant as the COP26 summit comes to a close in Glasgow, with more co-operation and understanding being built between nations."
