The annual event is dedicated to promoting traditional music and hosts a series of competitions for young musicians in Moray.

This year, alongside the festival, the society is planning to host musicians from across the north-east for an orchestra competition in the evening.

This, according to organisers, will give the people of Moray and surrounding area the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of live Scots music.

The concert last took place 20 years ago.

Festival secretary Louise McLean said: "We would really love to fill the church to full capacity on this evening and it certainly has the makings of an incredible evening of Scottish music and entertainment.

"We have six orchestras coming from all over the north of Scotland from Inverness to Aberdeen and the standard of playing should be incredibly high."

The competition takes place at Williamson Hall in Elgin at 8.45am on Saturday April 23.

It is free for the public to attend, with an orchestra performance following at 7pm at St. Columba’s Church in Elgin.

Tickets for the evening performance cost £7 and are available at Cathedral Windows in Elgin, or from society members.

Young musicians hoping to perform should email their entry by Monday, April 18, to the festival secretary Louise Mclean at lousiemclean56@gmail.com

To book musical entertainment or for further information, the society’s secretary is also available at 01343 814036.

The Elgin Orchestra will be competing and guest artiste John Cockburn is also in the line-up.

Compere for the evening is Gary Coull who is guaranteed to keep the audience well entertained.

Added Louise: "We are all very excited and are working hard to promote this event as this should be a fantastic

evening of entertainment for all."

Tickets are on sale at Cathedral Windows or from Elgin Society Members and are priced at £7.
