Scottish Water launches FREE event to celebrate World Toilet Day

WORLD Toilet Day will see Scottish Water join forces with companies across the UK to lead an innovative free water industry event for primary schools.
Youngsters are invited to take part in “We are UK Water” - a week long range of engaging and cross curricular online activities from November 16-19 November.
Scottish Water’s education team is one of 12 companies supporting the event, led by industry experts and designed specifically for primary school pupils.
From learning about the water cycle to the importance of using water wisely, the content has been designed to support various subject areas across the Scottish Curriculum. The online activities are accompanied by a resource pack for teachers.
The highlight will be a live event on Thursday, November 19), World Toilet Day, which takes place every year to raise awareness of the importance of safe sanitation across the world.
Due to Covid-19 disrupting the education programme, the teams have had to think differently about how they deliver important water saving messages to the younger generation.
Rather than each company doing its own thing, the cross-company specialists, who meet regularly throughout the year, decided to pool resources to come up with this initiative.
Anne Reed, chairwoman of the Water Company Education Forum, said: “Life is pretty different for everybody at the moment and like many other industries this year, because of Covid-19 we’ve had to think differently about how to deliver our important messages.
"Through our Education Forum water companies already collaborate on many initiatives but we haven’t attempted anything on a nationwide scale before. We hope this event paves the way for more innovation and further supports school at what is a very challenging time for them.”
