Lossie Seafest shock leaves community stunned as this summer’s celebrations cancelled

A hugely popular celebration of a Moray town’s maritime heritage will not be taking place this year.

This summer would have seen the 11th Seafest Lossiemouth take place, a week of events marking the town’s long and proud association with the sea, culminating in a summer fayre.

The popular Seafest Lossiemouth celebrations have been cancelled for this year.
The popular Seafest Lossiemouth celebrations have been cancelled for this year.

However, the organising team behind the extravaganza have dropped the bombshell that they have reluctantly had to cancel the 2025 festivities.

In a statement on the Seafest Lossiemouth Facebook page, the organisers thanked all those who had been involved in or supported the event in previous years.

They went on to outline the reasons for the news regarding this year’s Seafest.

“Unfortunately, firstly due to the uncertainty of the Community Asset Transfer of Station Park it has proved very difficult to find an alternative venue with the requirements needed to site the marquee.

“Seafest will not take place this year. According to feedback the marquee is important to the community, visitors and stall holders.

“Secondly, the same team are also responsible for the Christmas lights. Since August last year the team put all efforts into raising the funds to keep Lossie shining at Christmas. Hard work paid off! The lights were erected and switched on in November.

“We just haven’t had the time or energy to start planning Seafest 2025. However, our team will continue to raise funds with the help of the community for the Christmas lights 2025. We will keep you updated on our decision for Seafest 2026.

“In the meantime thank you for all your support of our fundraisers. We have a few planned for the year which will be announced shortly. All proceeds to Lossiemouth Christmas lights.

“We will be contacting those who have offered help in the next few weeks.”

Last year’s Seafest Lossiemouth saw a total of £5700 raised for local groups and good causes.
