BBC's gangster drama Peaky Blinders descended on Portsoy for a five-day spell of filming, wrapping up on Friday, February 12, with the action being based mainly around the village's historic 17th century harbour.

It is believed the filming was for the series' sixth season.

While not involved with the filming, the Seafield Arms Hotel in Cullen nevertheless had a vital role to play by looking after members of the cast and crew during their time in the north-east.

It is the latest feather in the cap for the hotel, which reopened in May 2019 after lying disused since 2011.

Seafield Arms deputy manager Ailie Flett said the hotel had been delighted to welcome the Peaky Blinders crew and have left their guests with a hugely impression of both the hotel and the village itself.

She continued: "Among the guests from the crew staying here at the Seafield Arms Hotel were Alison McCosh, the lead costume designer who has worked in LA, California for many years, and actress Alison Todd.

"She played Sandra in season 5 and also works alongside the costume department when off screen.

"One of the most interesting guests we had staying was the production designer, Nicole Northridge.

"We are not sure if any Cullen residents met any of the Peaky Blinders team as most ventured out in the snow each evening to explore Cullen. We have even secured bookings for some to come back and stay with us in the summer as they enjoyed the coastline so much."

Peaky Blinders is set in Birmingham shortly after World War I, but Portsoy's 17th century harbour has been turned into a French village for the show.

The new harbour was used for what appeared to be some sort of prison scenes.

The programme as secured a Bafta and several National Television Awards.

It is widely expected that a film will follow the show's sixth season.

The Scottish Government is allowing film and TV production to take place during the coronavirus pandemic under strict rules. All cast and crew were routinely tested for Covid-19.
