The MAN was, along with weighing in at 3.4 tonnes over its maximum weight, also found to have “serious braking defects”.

Due to the “dangerous condition”, officers said, the vehicle was seized and prohibited from use on the public road.

Similarly, a Ford Transit was found to be 2.4 tonnes overweight, with under-inflated tyres and an insecure load.

The vehicle was also found to be uninsured for how it was being used at the time of the inspection.

Officers made the truck subject to an “immediate prohibition”, officers said.

Constable Ross Houghton from the Road Policing Unit in Elgin said both vehicles were a “serious risk to public safety”.

He also emphasised the importance of the “vital” check in keeping the roads free of dangerous vehicles.

“Both of these commercial vehicles were dangerously overweight presenting a serious risk to road safety,” he added.

“These checks are vital to ensuring that we keep unsafe vehicles off our roads.”
