A man with a bizarre attraction for stealing pigeons has been ordered to stay away from Elgin for the next year.

Dean Wells appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court today via video link, having already admitted stealing a racing pigeon from an address on Muirfield Road, Elgin on August 4.

He also admitted taking a bicycle from a different address on the same street and behaving in a threatening and abusive manner.

Sheriff Ian Wallace ordered him to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work for the community.

Wells, who now lives in Crimond, was also told not to enter Elgin during the next 12 months.

The 28-year-old has previously been jailed on at least four occasions during the past seven years for breaking into pigeon lofts.
