UPWARDS of 50 volunteers have come forward in Burghead and Cummingston to help look after vulnerable people in their community.

Posters have been supplied to homes across both villages.

The idea is that if anyone requires helps with deliveries of food, medicine or anything else, they can put up the relevant poster in their window.

Under the direction of the Burghead and Cummingston community council, help is also being provided to bring people prescriptions from the local pharmacy.

Chris Tuke, who sits on the council, said: "A lot of people – both old regulars and relative newcomers to the village – have signed up to help in whatever way we can.

"It's a great community effort. We really couldn't ask for more.

"We're in the middle of a very difficult time but the community spirit is strong."

Sadly, another innovative move has had to be put on ice for the time being.

However, hope remains that a book exchange might still be set up at some point outside in the Burghead community garden.
