Sick thief targets paralysed victim
A HEARTLESS thief raided the bedroom of a paralysed Moray man and stole cash from a bag hanging from the bedridden victim’s wheelchair as he slept.
The family of tetraplegic Bill Gregor (65) also believe the culprit returned just three days later to try a second robbery at his New Elgin home, but fled when his disabled victim urged him to return the cash he stole earlier.
Police are investigating the cash theft, which took place in broad daylight last Thursday in Ben Aigen Walk, where Mr Gregor and his wife, Doreen (61) have lived for almost 40 years without any trouble.
Mrs Gregor, who was ill and in her own bed when the intruder struck at lunchtime, said she was appalled that someone would target her husband, who is paralysed from the chest down and dependent on an oxygen machine.
“What we’re feeling is just pure and utter disgust,” she said. “We think because this person has seen Bill as such an easy target, they have done this.
“That’s what makes me so mad and disgusted, to do this to someone who is so vulnerable. We want to make folk aware of the kind of people that are out there.”
